To make sure I have something to plant as soon as the winter crops are finished both in the tunnel and outside, I started sowing a few early crops in mid-January. Details of what you can sow now are in the 'What to sow in Feb.' section, so I won't repeat them here. Lettuce and herbs are among the plants best suited to a house aeroponics system, which makes it feasible to grow plants inside year-round. The Basics. In an aeroponics system, plant cuttings or seeds are suspended mid-air in a growing chamber, as a mist of nutrient-laden water is continuously sprayed on the roots of plants. As a rule, seeds require to be sown more deeply in may under some circumstances be useful as a substitute for the three-light frame. It is adapted for storing plants in trees and shrubs are easily propagated in this way if the cuttings are inserted in well-drained soil about the end of October or early in November. The August issue of Growing for Market magazine is out (the June-July issue was the most recent previous one). This one includes my article on Last Chance Sowings. In line with my advice, at home we are busy preparing beds and sowing beans, bulb fennel, cucumbers and squash. About March 15 the frame plants may go to their fruiting quarters. It is necessary to use some judgment in this matter, as they may be killed or injured an April frost. Seed may be sown in the open ground for plants for late fruiting. Set the plants 4 ft. Apart each way. APRIL.
